Post - Christian yearning and gospel windows
Every culture, every context, every worldview throws up yearning or existential questions – and those questions are related to the beliefs and values of that worldview. So Buddhists are asking how do I avoid suffering and disappointment, displaced migrants and refugees are asking how do I secure a stable future for my children, and Christendom Westerners were asking how do I alleviate my guilt and find assurance of eternal life.
What are the existential questions and yearnings of post-Christian Worldview (PCWV)?
If the PCWV cannot deliver what if promises – if these dreams are not realised, what feelings result?
How do we name up these valid yet misplaced yearnings (idols) for what they are?
How do these yearnings provide a window through which I can begin a conversation about the hope and life that Jesus brings?
Here is a quick reference table. Use it as a mud-map to think about conversations with your friends, where the PCWV is offering things it cannot deliver, and how Jesus and his Kingdom offer something deeper and greater.
